Multnomah Falls Oregon Proposal

Multnomah Falls Proposal Guide

The Ultimate Guide to Proposing at Multnomah Falls

Multnomah Falls, one of Oregon’s most iconic and romantic locations, provides a stunning natural backdrop for a proposal. With its dramatic 620-foot cascade and lush greenery, it’s a picture-perfect spot to pop the question.

Best Time of Day for a Proposal

Morning is always the best option

Arrive just after sunrise for the most intimate experience. Most tourists show up around 8-8:30 am.

Best Proposal Locations at Multnomah Falls

The base of the Falls Is best.

Stand on the viewing platform near the bottom for a breathtaking backdrop.

What about the bridge?

The bridge is pretty but iy is very narrow and not the best option to get your proposal captured.

Tips for the Perfect Proposal

Check the Weather – Oregon’s weather can be unpredictable. Rain can add a misty, romantic effect, but be prepared with umbrellas.

Plan for Crowds – If privacy is important, sunrise is your best bet. Weekdays are also less crowded than weekends.

Hire a Photographer – Consider hiring a local photographer to capture the moment. They can also help guide you to the best angles and lighting.

Prepare for the Terrain – Wear comfortable shoes, especially if you plan to hike. Some areas can be slippery.

Bring a Backup Plan – If crowds or weather interfere, consider a nearby scenic spot like Latourell Falls or Wahkeena Falls as an alternative.

Pack a Small Picnic – Celebrate with a toast or a cozy picnic by the falls after the big moment. Also there are not any food options within 30 minutes of the falls.

Bonus Ideas to Make it Extra Special

💌 Write a Love Letter – Handwritten notes always add a personal touch.

🎶 Play Your Song – Bring a small speaker to softly play a song that’s meaningful to you both.

📸 Arrange a Surprise Photographer – Ely Roberts would be a fantastic choice to capture the moment in a natural, adventure-inspired way!

🏔 Make It an Adventure – Combine your proposal with a fun activity like hiking, or exploring other waterfalls.

February Surprise Proposal Engagement Photos

Blanca and Fernando were visiting Portland from California and found themselves in a dreamy snow-covered landscape.

Fernando contacted me a few weeks ago for help with his proposal to his girlfriend, Blanca, while they were visiting Portland, Oregon. We carefully planned the surprise and chose a quiet morning with snowy weather to make it extra special and avoid crowds. The plan worked perfectly, and Blanca was completely surprised. I captured the moment on video and took some beautiful photos of the snowy scene. This proposal at Multnomah Falls was one of my favorites, thanks to the sweetest couple and the magical winter atmosphere.

October Surprise Proposal Engagement Photos

Brandon and Megan, from Texas, were visiting Portland to check out Oregon’s fall colors. Prior to their trip, Brandon asked me to meet up with them to capture his surprise proposal to Megan. After stocking them for a few minutes, Brandon asked me to take a photo of them with his phone, then he dropped a knee. It was a perfect surprise proposal at Multnomah Falls, just outside of Portland, Oregon, followed by a stunning engagement session.

The Columbia River Gorge is, without a doubt, one of my favorite places in the world to photograph. The Columbia River Gorge begins just 30 minutes east of Portland Oregon and is just stunning. There are numerous waterfalls ranging from a 30-second walk from the road to several mile hikes. One of the easiest and most stunning waterfalls is Multnomah Falls. I recommend visiting around 9-10am for the best lighting and the least amounts of crowds.

Greg and Marrisa’s twin sister, Maddison, started planning a surprise proposal at Multnomah Falls, in Oregon. They contacted me about photos, and we put together a way for Greg to find me and ask me to take an iPhone photo of him and Marissa at the falls. They were on a trip to Portland from Northern California to enjoy Portland and take a few hikes. The plan we perfectly and I was also able to video their proposal with my second camera on a tripod. I love getting to meet such wonderful couples who are so excited to spend their lives together.
