Broken Top Crater Engagement
Being a photographer here in Bend, Oregon I have the opportunity to photograph weddings, engagements, and elopements in some amazing locations. The lake up at Broken Top has been on my list of locations, so when my brother proposed to his girlfriend I knew we had to take them up there for a shoot.
Starting from the Broken Top Crater Trailhead the hike is about 1 hour. We took photos around 4 pm and the light was perfect. The weather was also plenty warm, so we were brave enough to jump into the lake. The water is as cold and refreshing as you would imagine.

Permit & Season Information
A Central Cascades Wilderness Overnight Permit allows the permit holder and their group to travel in these wilderness areas for overnight trips. Overnight permits are required for all overnight visitors to the Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington, and Three Sisters Wildernesses somewhere between May and October. Each year has changed a little bit.
Day Permits are reserved through Central Cascades Wilderness Overnight Permits – Full Season in Advance.
Every year has been a little different so it’s best to click on the calendar on the site to check on the next permit release.
The permit holder must have a copy of the permit with them during their trip. There is plenty of service along the way if you forget your printed copy and need to use your phone.
Taylor and Dallas – September
Taylor and Dallas took their photos the last week of September, which was a little late in the season. We didn’t see any snow on the road or trail, but it was super moody.
